Cristiano Ronaldo needs 12 weeks to recover

Cristiano Ronaldo is facing at least three months on the sidelines, according to Antonio Gaspar the Portuguese national team physiotherapist.

The Manchester United wide man has had a difficult summer, failing to deliver at Euro2008 and then toying with Spanish suitors Real Madrid and his Old Trafford employers.

Ronaldo underwent surgery on his right ankle last Monday and the Portugal physiotherapist Antonio Gaspar has confirmed the playmaker will not return to action before October.

"We are going to use everything that is possible to us and that will help him recover as quickly as possible," Gaspar told Spanish sports daily AS. "But Cristiano Ronaldo will not be in an optimum state for the competition until 12 weeks are up"
