Andres Iniesta's 116th minute goal won Spain the World Cup for the first time after they edged out the Netherlands in a scrappy, nervous, stop-start match in Johannesburg.
The game was a disappointment throughout - but Iniesta volleyed a pinpoint pass from Cesc Fabregas into the net from six yards out to claim the World Cup for Spain.
It was just about a deserved win for Spain who did dominate possession, although Spain won few friends with a display of theatrical dives, rolls, screams, and over-reactions for much of the 120 minutes. Hardly a heroic display.
The World Cup is over for four more years, and frankly not a moment to soon. FIFA do need to find a way to get the histrionics out of the game before Brazil in 2014, probably by giving the referee some sort of access to video replay technology.
